Building the universe
What we did:
We began by identifying all listed companies with meaningful links to the global sports economy – across North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and beyond.
- Categorised each company by segment and sub-segment (e.g., Rights holders, media, apparel, betting, technology, infrastructure and others).
- Estimated each company’s percentage of revenue from sport – forming the foundation of the index.
- Combined these into a live, global universe of ~250 sports-linked stocks.
Screening for relevance
To ensure materiality and comparability, we applied two inclusion thresholds:
We then introduced a two-tier exposure framework, weighting companies based on how much of their revenue is derived from sport.
Note: Companies with less than 30% revenue from sport have not been considered for inclusion in the index.
Shortlisting the final index
From this universe, only companies that met all criteria and had reliable, trackable data were included.
The result is a curated list of 100 companies representing the commercial backbone of global sport.
Index Calculation
Here’s how raw data translates into the live TSC SPIN 100 Index:
Step-by-step
Start with raw weight
each company’s market cap as % of the total.
Adjust for sport exposure
multiply raw weights by tier-based multipliers.
Normalize weights
scale adjusted weights to 100 %.
Calculate weighted share prices
share price x normalized weight.
Sum them up
to produce the live TSC SPIN 100 Index value.
Conclusion
The TSC SPIN 100 isn’t just another index – it’s built on transparency, data quality, and live market performance, providing a real-time lens on the business of sport.
It enables performance tracking across:
- Multiple timeframes (YTD, 3M, 6M, 1Y, 3Y, 5Y)
- Financial ratios (P/E, EV/Sales, EBITDA margins)
- Growth metrics (revenue and EBIT growth)
The index can also be analysed on any custom date – ideal for quarterly reviews, annual reports, and market insights.
